Blog Action Day
and then let's talk about it.
let's talk about our small earth, that we use and abuse every single day, forgetting that unfortunately is everything but an infinite resource of all the things we continuously consume, destroy and waste.

Waste.
Waste is the first impressive thing that comes up at your eyes when you get in the US and you are not from here, obviously.
You believe to come in the most developed country, ok ok late political issue may have changed our ideas about the "land of plenty" i know..,
but sometime the disappointment is sitriking.
Waste of food, everything in any restaurant is served in huge portion, that as soon as you get here just look too big.. then when you go home everything look so small ..
food that yes, you can bring home with the magical "doggy bag" box, but often you don't.
Waste, of gas and fuel, and energy.
Gas, as everybody uses the car to go everywhere, besides the big cities you just can't walk somewhere, as there is no "somewhere" where to walk to when you live in suburbia. there is a drive-tru station almost for anything:
McDonald, of course, and any kind of take away food station,
the bank, yeah you can withdraw money sitting in your car..
the post office, why should you get off of your car when you can just drop the mail from there?
the pharmacy, pick up service with drive thru options..
and so on.
Waste of energy, the most common way to heat an apartment is an electric wire that goes around the base of the wall all around the house..
Waste of paper, they do recycle things, but the amount of stuff that I saw printed out at MIT as a continuum, is impressive, the amount of paper that goes away everywhere is difficult to imagine..
sometime the waste is in the time.. you may think that things are perfectly organized at MIT, but it's not exactly that way.
First of all, and this was happening in my high school as well, so it is definitely just some american fixation.., anytime you have to ask for something, to be registered, to have a certificate, to talk with someone, to do anything, you have to fill in a form.. and papers go..

MIT is really active though in trying to convert in as green as possible in all its part.
Starting with creating offices that take care exclusively of this topic,
together with a series of events and organization to spread the "verb": green is better..
Big difference from Italy, a positive one, is that BioDiesel here is not a taboo but actually something to work on with all the possible means.

So, yeah, apparently Al Gore is riding the right horse.. it is so trendy to talk about environment and global warming, hopefully soon, apart from talking, everyone will ACT to give to our planet some peace.

and, JUST DO IT
turn off the light, don't let run the water for longer than you need (MAMMA!!) don't overheat your apartment, don't over freeze you apartment (depending on the season :), RECYCLE RECYCLE RECYCLE, anything you can, once you get used of it, it doens't take that much effort, do no waste things, in general, buy as much as you need and as much as you think you are going to use. If you can, don't waste gas using uselessly the car, you'll save money, gas and pollution..
and many other few things can be done, and sooooooo many other, basically whatever your common sense suggests you ..
will do something
